Detectives have found the murderer in a 1976 cold case, a known sexual predator whose blood was found on the jacket of the victim. Leon Seymour, at 71 years of age, was charged Wednesday with fatally stabbing 19-year-old Denise Lampe in Daly City (near San Fransisco) 41 years ago. He was committed to a state mental hospital after a 33-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting six women. He's being held on a $10 million bail. Lampe was stabbed multiple times and was (most likely) raped before her death. Seymour's attorney (Paul DeMeester) has said the DNA match is the only evidence that he's aware of that ties his client to the murder. "DNA is going to be front and center of this case," he told the Daily Journal. The San Mateo District Attorney (Steve Wagstaffe) told the Daily Journal "We believe we are going to be able to obtain justice for them by holding the killer of their loved one accountable."

It's crazy that a case from 1976 was just solved now. It makes me glad to know that people don't forget about crimes like this and that they are still willing to find and accuse culprits many years later.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Allison, but also that this case is so relevant even now! This speaks volumes for the sexual predation struggle women are going through right now, even if the crime took place in 1976.
ReplyDelete41 years is a long times to go without having questions answered. I can't imagine being a defense attorney in a case like this, because having to defend a guilty man would be really difficult, especially in a murder trial.
