Sam Wood- Trump vs. Puerto Rico Mayor
On Saturday, our president, Donald Trump, took to Twitter saying that the leaders of Puerto Rico "want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort." Very recently, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria. Trump's remarks angered the Puerto Ricans and many others around the world. Later the same day, he bashed the mayor of San Juan with this tweet: "The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help."
I believe remarks from a President should show compassion and leadership. What he said Saturday doesn't show either. Meanwhile, the mayor of San Juan is doing the best she can to help all the victims of the terrible hurricane. Puerto Rico is home to about 3 million Americans yet President Trump continues to treat them as 2nd class citizens.

I completely agree that the president should be helpful and uplifting at such a difficult time, and I think that he's creating this stereotype of Puerto Ricans that they are lazy. Knowing what Trump has already tried to do, seems like he would say something like this. He just makes everyone hate him.

ReplyDeleteI SO agree that the president should take matters into his own hands and HELP Puerto Rico out.

The president is forgetting that Puerto Rico is a US territory. The US should help like they did turning hurricane Harvey and Irma. I agree that its the president's job to show compassion and leadership towards his country and territory. It is absolutely terrifying that our country chose a leader that does not embody any of those characteristics.
