Nearly a month ago, Hurricane Maria tore at Puerto Rico. Not only did it ruin many homes, but the water systems as well. Now, a month later, almost 3 million people are still living without running water. The FDA has deemed only one well to contain clean water, as the other have chemical contamination in the ground that could potentially be seeping into the water supply. Some citizens have accepted the fact and have been waiting in line for hours to fill up jugs of water, while others have resorted to peeling back chain link fences in order to take their chances with the dangerous water. Toxic chemicals may be harming all these citizens, but for the time being it is all they have.
The fact that so many people have to live under such terrible conditions makes me so mad. Although the author, Jason Morris, wrote an unbiased article, it is clear that I am not the only one who is frustrated. As a district of the United States of America, those citizens should be receiving more help. Just because they are not a state, doesn’t mean they should receive less attention than others affected by different hurricanes. We need to stand together as a country to fix this instead of letting our president draw the attention away from the problem by insulting the mayor.
Olivia Wall- It is so sad that people do not have proper running water, and I hope that they can fix their living conditions as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteYet our president helps by throwing rolls of paper towels at civilians. It will take a while to recover from this disaster but its still sad that what's fundamental, they don't have.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that even a month later people are still living with out a major necessity. We really need to find a better way to supply water to these civilians, it needs to be a priority.
ReplyDeleteIt's so horrible to hear that families have to deal with the lack of basic needs, such as food and water. There has to be a better way to get those in need the help that they deserve.
ReplyDeleteIt's awful that people in Puerto Rico have had to go a month without basic human needs. We need to be doing more as a country to help because they are part of our country.
