As known, the Kurdish have been fighting for their independence for a century. The Kurds are in Iraq, which has been taken over by dangerous and unauthorized people. The Kurds finally had a vote for independence. However, a new problem has revealed itself, because they are landlocked and depend so much on other countries, will it ever be able to fully become independent. Iraq is very arid, and has to import many resources. They came to the conclusion that 93% of the people voted for independence on Monday, it is a historic moment for the Kurds, but they are all alone. Other countries are looking to get natural resources, such as Oil, and its loose is fearing the Kurds. They have come to the conclusion that Iraq is not economically stable or ready for independence. The Kurds will take this process day-by-day and will negotiate likewise.
I think it is great that they have finally gained independence, to think that it has taken 100 years for that is crazy. I hope that they can become economically stable soon, and get a representative government. This is written for everyone in the world to understand. This relates to APUSH because when you think of when the thirteen colonies became independent from Britain, it did nit take 100 years, it was much shorter, and although required help from a few countries, did not turn into a world affair.

I had never known about the Kurdish need for independence. I'm glad to see some countries and still growing and changing and gaining independence.
ReplyDeleteIt's bizarre that it can take that long for a country to win independence. I'm surprised and impressed that they never gave up.
ReplyDeleteI remember learning about the Kurds in APHuG last year, and this is a good thing that this country just gained their independence!
ReplyDeleteI think its crazy that they have been trying to gain independence for so long, yet you don't hear about the Kurds very often. I too hope they gain the independence they deserve.
ReplyDeleteIn APHUG last year, we learned that the Kurds were a stateless nation, meaning they are a unified people without a land to govern themselves. They are split between a few nations and therefore, have no independence.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy that they just gained their independence. I had never heard of that until now.
ReplyDeleteThis is a crazy story. It took them way too long, but they got what they wanted.
