Recently in Paris, a rare nude charcoal drawing, potentially done by Da Vinci, has been found in the basement of a library. It is believed, that this is a sketch of Mona Lisa. Many have made this assumption because of the long list on similarities between the painting and the sketch. For instance, the women in both have the same posture, arm position, facial structure, facial expression, and they are both looking in the same direction. Another reason is the fact that both the painting and the drawing have very similar compositions.
This pertains to history, for it further gives us an understanding of things like: what life was like, what materials were available, how people generally looked, and also what ideas were typically being perceived. Without evidence like this, we might not have had such a thorough and concrete idea as to what life was like back then.
As an artist, it really fills me with joy to know that a drawing done by one of my favorite artists has just been discovered. Not only that, but also because it is so good!
