A oil rig caught fire and exploded yesterday at around 7:15 last night on Lake Pontchartrain. The fire was originally started when cleaning chemicals caught fire, and as of now 7 are injured and 1 is missing. Their injuries are ''blast-type injuries and burns" and more employees are expected to be admitted to the hospital. Authorities were originally worried about oil contaminating the drinking water for the Jefferson Parish area, but luckily their water is pulled from the Mississippi River area. Water tests will be conducted to insure clean water as well. The coast guard crew are hoping to get helicopters out to search for the missing man and for other spots of pollution. They are also planning to stop the flow of oil and if necessary, let it burn safely. People living near the lake reported their houses shaking, flames being seen, and the smell of burning rubber.
This article was written to inform the general public about a huge chemical spill that could potentially threaten the environment around New Orleans. This article has no bias, but it does inform about the consequences of the oil industry, and what major impacts they can have.

This is sad! When will the tragedy, man made and natural, stop for our nation? It's too much!
ReplyDeleteThis is very scary, first the spill, and now citizens have to be worried about their water supply. I hope all turns out okay, and they find the missing man.
