Missing Hikers Found Dead- Sanaya Gangal

     Researchers in California found the bodies of Rachel Nguyen and Joseph Orbeso shot dead near a rugged canyon in a remote area of the Joshua Tree National Park. This couple went missing three months ago on a hiking trip, and "based on evidence located at the scene, detectives believe Orbeso shot Nguyen, then shot himself," stated the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. As they were investigating the crime scene of the murder and suicide, they discovered a gun near the dead bodies and later found out that it was registered to Orbeso himself.
     The couple were stated "missing" July 28th after they failed to check out of their hotel/ bed-and-breakfast place near the park. More than 250 searchers helped look for the couple for days; this long and hard search caused more than 10 people to be injured, and dehydrated. After a difficult week of thorough searching, authorities decided to "scale back the search". Although the investigation ended, Orbeso's father still searched every weekend in the cliffs and boulders with a volunteer rescue team. After they were found, Orbeso's father noted that even though he's mourning his son's death, he felt a sense of relief that he was able to bring him home.

Analysis: 
   I find it very upsetting that this happened but what I find disturbing is that they were found three months after they went missing. It made me think about the lives of other unknown hikers who could be dead right now and nobody knows it. Also, I find it scary to think that Orbeso was the one that caused both his death, and his girlfriends death because he was the one with the gun. What made him do that? Why did he shoot himself afterwards?
