Larsen Nichols-Gun control policies that majorities in both parties support

http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/02/politics/bipartisan-gun-control-policies-majorities/index.html

This article highlights gun control policies that both democrats and republicans support, and also the differences in the two parties' opinions on gun control. Polls shows that the majority of both parties support banning the mentally ill and people on the federal no-fly or watch lists from buying guns, banning assault weapons, and creating a federal database to track gun sales. But most republicans oppose the creation of stricter gun laws, while more democrats see gun violence as a pressing issue.

This article was written by Ryan Struyk, data reporter and Mobile Producer of CNN Politics. He reports stories based on political data.
It was written just an hour ago, so we know that all the data is up to date and recent.
I knew that democrats and republicans disagreed on gun control, but I didn't realize that there were topics they agreed on, too. This provides complexity and new perspective on the issue.
This article was likely written for democrats, and it most likely has a positive influence on them, since it's bringing to light commonalities in opinion of the two parties.
This article is trying to convey that while democrats and republican's opinions on gun control differ, there is something they agree on, and it specifies those things.
The article is important and relevant because it informs people of the specific differences and similarities in opinions. We can use this information in our life to bridge the gap between parties and find a commonality with those we disagree with.
This article can be related to the conflict between the federalists and antifederalists when the issue of ratifying the constitution was prevalent. While they disagreed on most things, they still found commonalities.

  1. I never knew how much they agreed on till I read this article. Every citizen wants to protect their rights no matter what party. The difference is how far one will go when faced with horrible tragedies such as the Las Vegas.

  2. I think this shows how we decide what people are like and what their beliefs are just by their political party. To think that you have to fully support your party is insane. A republican has the right to support abortitions just like a Democrats has the right to not support strict gun control laws.
