Larsen Nichols- Donald Trump just used Mike Pence for a PR stunt

Just yesterday, Mike Pence walked out of the Colts game in Indianapolis when players kneeled during the national anthem. Trump admitted on twitter that he asked Pence to leave if any players kneeled, and commended him for his act. This article compares Trump to a reality TV show host, and demonstrates how he creates constant drama in the media.

This article was written by Chris Cillizza of CNN. He is a politics reporter and editor at large. This article was released earlier today, just a day after the occurrence of the event. Before I read this article, I knew that NFL players were kneeling before games during the national anthem as a form of protest, but I didn't know that Pence had walked out of the game  yesterday. Personally, I think the way that these players are protesting is fantastic and civil and does not cause anyone harm. They are merely exercising their right to free speech. There is no need for people to publicly condemn them for their actions. When people have differing opinions from others, those others should be willing to listen to what they have to say and respect their opinions.
The point that the article is trying to convey is that Trump has made the presidency into somewhat of a reality show, and uses any opportunity he can to stir up drama. The article was written to give people new perspective on how Trump's pattern of actions can be interpreted, and inform them of the events that occurred yesterday.
A time in U.S history where something similar to this occurred was the American Revolution. During that time, protests were being conducted to voice opinions, and some of those protests were entirely peaceful and didn't harm anyone. Yet, England still disregarded what they had to say and kept on giving the colonies more grievances. Tories were not in support of the Patriot's protests, either.

  1. I totally agree with you. Exercising your rights in a peaceful way should be respected, even if you disagree with their opinions.

  2. Trump is... something else. I honestly don't known how peaceful protests harm anyone (notice the PEACE in peaceful), and this nation's "leader" is getting butthurt for people standing up for themselves. Freedom of speech is a right that needs to be used more often.

  3. The problem with talking about free speech when it comes to this topic is that people see what the national anthem represents very differently. Some people see the national anthem representing America so protest problems facing America would be understandable. Where others see the national anthem as a way to honor the troops and that is why people are getting so upset, because they see protesters disrespecting the troops who fought for them to have the right to protest freely.
