School Bans Cartwheels Because Kids Could Get Hurt

As of Wednesday, October 4th, a number of schools across the country have begun banning cartwheels and even some forms of sports equipment, because they are seen as threats to children's safety. Principal Todd Gribbon reported, "[These items] can cause concussions, and neck and wrist injuries." Alicia Fernandez, public school principal, states "Kids were coming in scared." These cases are what lead to the new school-wide enforced ban on cartwheels and some forms of sports equipment.

The purpose of this article is to provide information concerning the changing rules and regulations being obtained by schools across the nation. However, instead of shinning a positive light on the education system's decisions, this article shines a negative one. Schools are choosing to ban simple, fun, everyday activities, due to a few cases that have resulted in injury. Not only does this decision take away the creative fun that all children should enjoy, but it also teaches children that anything and everything that they are scared of should simply be banned or taken away: telling kids that they should shy away from their fears, rather than conqueror them.

  1. This seems kind of silly to me because yea kids get hurt, they're kids, they're flexible to that sort of stuff. If they don't grow up to know what pain is then the new generation would be weak and that's not right.

  2. I agree. This situation seems silly because all kids are going to get hurt and a cartwheel is hard to take away from a kid because they all do cartwheels.

  3. Yeah I agree, because no matter what kids are going to be kids when they get hurt they just do it again. You shouldn't take away fun to be 'safe' that's just wrong.
