Hurricane Maria recovery -jade pierre
Puerto Rico has been hit hard by hurricanes recently in the recovery has been rough. About half of of Puerto Rico has clean water and supplies. About 1.5 million barrels a fuel will be reaching Puerto Rico in the next couple of days. Currently there is over 10,000 relief workers spread all over Puerto Rico to help fix the damage and provide services to those affected. Only about a quarter of the homes will have electricity in the next month (only 10% of homes are expected to have electricity by the end of these next two weeks). Only 47% of homes have running water which should increase to 60% by the end of this week. 40% of the phone service has been restored the rest of the areas have no Cellular communication .
Hopefully this recovery speeds up. This isn't an easy time for the country but hopefully they don't run into any other major conflicts.

This is so awful. Do you think our experience in dealing with several natural disasters in a row will help us be prepared in the future?
ReplyDeleteI hope that the US coastguards put in as much effort into Puerto Rico recovery as any mainland country. In the article I wrote about, a senior home was neglected for almost 2 weeks by the coastguards without food or water. My wishes go out to Puerto Rico.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad, I really hope that they recover soon rather than later. I hope the US coastguard is able to provide as much help in as many places as they can.
