Henry Haas-Kurkik:When things couldn’t get any worse

Today the national government of Iraq used its power given to it by the US to defend against outside attacks to retake the northern citie of Kirkuk. US official were shocked and dumbfounded by this, saying officially that they did not side with either but are worried that ISIS is still too much of a threat. This could very well lead to an interior and exterior conflict in the territory. The Government of Iraq seems to be making a rather rash and ill choice here.
This could have an effect in many ways. This conflict is coming, and I don’t think there is much that could be done to stop it. This will effect the outcome of the conflict as a whole exponentially, and I worry that it will take the hard work and lives we spent to get here for granted. The decision made today was not one merited by logic, or so we believe as of now. It seems that the conflicts over there in the east just won’t resolve. No matter what we Americans try to do

  1. It's troubling because things like this don't get reported on as much as things here at home. However the conflict in the Middle East is ongoing and I worry to what affect that will have on the US.

  2. I’m more concerned with how the us will decide to deal with this. What happens in the US matters to everyone.
