A 19 year old Texas Tech student has shot and killed a police officer, the reasoning behind this is left unstated as one would expect since it is very recent. I have sympathy for the police officer as he had done nothing wrong (as far as we know). Maybe the suspect had political or personal conflictions with the police in general or it was that specific officer but anyones guess is as good as mine. The officer was shot in the head and killed then the suspect reportedly fled on foot. My opinion is that there is too much senseless violence in America and in the world in general driven by political and ideological beliefs, I only wish there was an alternative but in reality it is very difficult to do in this violent world.
Whenever I saw this, I was scared, but then realized that this could be easily prevented with a more controlled view on guns on college campuses. It's really not that hard to do and it's literally just common sense that stressed out people shouldn't have guns.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there should be background checks but really there's no predicting what a person can do with a gun. Especially when it is a college student.
DeleteI think that a clear background check should be required before someone buys a gun. Unneeded violences such as this can be prevented if gun control is enforced.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Doing a background check is way more helpful than harmful and can really help to prevent stuff like this happening.

ReplyDeleteIt's devastating that travesties like this keep happening. I agree too that there should be tighter controls/restrictions. I'm curious as to what his motive was. Possibly a violent protest against police brutality? Regardless the reason, this is deeply saddening and unacceptable. I hope for healing for his family and our nation as a whole in the aftermath of multiple terrible tragedies such as this one.
It is important to realize the statistics when it comes to gun control. A study showed that from 2009 that 92% of mass shootings occurred in gun-free zones. Also I see no correlation with a problem behind background checks, because he probably acquired the gun illegally due to the fact that he had a criminal background for illegal substance.
ReplyDeleteMy sister goes to Texas Tech and it was scary not being able to make sure she’s safe. One student can easily do damage and he did. An officer shouldn’t have lost their life because of one individual. He wasn’t even in handcuffs so what was he thinking that made him feel the need to shoot someone?
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad and terrible and I wonder what his purpose was while doing this. An innocent man lost their life and is very unexpected on a college campus.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. It upsets me that ah innocent man lost his life due to some careless teen. That’s awful.
