Early Saturday morning, the Auburn Police Department in Washington state received a 911 call from a woman claiming to have been sexually assaulted by rapper Nelly while he was on tour. After a brief police investigation, Nelly was taken into police custody. However, as of right now, he has been released and has not been formally charged with anything.
This is always a very disheartening thing to read in the news. As a woman, there have definitely been times when I have been walking down a street afraid for my safety because there might be a known sexual offender out among the masses. This situation is very similar to allegations against Ronald Reagan of raping an actress named Selene Walters in 1952. Of course, no charges were pressed against Reagan and he went on to become president. There is also our current president to consider, who has let the world know many times of his highly inappropriate sexual conquests with women. It is a very sad world we live in if people like this can announce their crimes to the world yet still go unpunished.

I love how you related this back to Ronald Raegan and our current president. When will people realize that sexual assault is popular crime that goes unnoticed.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me really mad that status can get you acquitted of a crime, or have the crime not be taken as seriously as it should be. A similar incident occurred a few years ago, Johnny Depp was accused of physically and emotionally abusing his wife, and even though she had a lot of proof, he didn't suffer any consequences.
ReplyDeleteAs a women we can never let our guard down because there are nasty and dangerous people out there. My parents even bought me pepper spray when I moved here to Dallas because a big city like this is also a big target for danger.
