Kyla Thomas (1st Period)- Conway: Trump will not release tax returns

 Summary: This main idea of this article is that Donald Trump has not released his tax returns and the effects of his decision. In November of 2016, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States and that has caused much fear, confusion, and sadness among many Americans. The fact that Donald Trump is a multi billionaire and won't even pay taxes is confusing to me. Why won't he pay taxes? Why is he so secretive about it? Why is it that we are letting these tax returns slide under the rug? Had Barack Obama done that, the media would be all over it and that possibly would've been the deciding fact on whether or not we would be president or not. In the article, Donald Trump thought that it was the media and critics who were so concerned with his tax returns but a recent CNN poll directly negated that statement. 73% of registered voters surveyed think Trump should release his tax returns for public review, including about half of Republicans at 49%.

Analysis: This article is very relevant to today's times because in the wake of Inauguration Day, it's important to point out why people voted for Donald Trump. Let's consider the facts that Donald Trump has said extremely disgusting and inappropriate things about women, he claimed a judge was biased because “he’s a Mexican”, he stereotyped Jews and shared an anti-Semitic meme created by white supremacists, he treated African-American supporters as tokens to dispel the idea he is racist, and has the idea of using American tax- payers tax money to pay for a wall that he will have no part in paying for, just to name a few.In relation to US History, the first income tax was put in order in 1861 during the Civil War as a mechanism to finance the war effort. Ever since, it has been the jobs and duty of Americans to pay taxes, except Donald Trump. I wonder why he feels like this LAW doesn't apply to him. Maybe because of white privilege. All I know is that the people want Donald Trump to release his tax returns and he should do just that. It is unfair that he is not being forced to pay or jailed for not paying. Action needs to be taken.
