Sophia Jalilvand: 14-year-old burned in e-cigarette explosion on Harry Potter ride

Summary: A 14-year-old girl riding a Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios in Orlando now has moderate burns. She was taken to the Arnold Palmer Hospital after a college student on the ride had an e-cigarette in his pocket that malfunctioned. Supposedly, it shot a ball of fire in the air and left a burn mark on the seat, but other than that the ride was fine. He and his friends fled the park before authorities could arrive. Apparently, there have been 22 incidents like this and it is suspected to be related to improper treatment of the lithium batteries in the e-cigarette. However, about 9 million people around the US use these devices, so the number of incidents is small.

Analysis: It is concerning a device that so many people use can cause others to be in danger. There have been very few incidents, but we have to make sure that we are using these devices properly. This can be related to many different aspects of history, as new technology always results in issues. This was posted not two hours ago, which means this is a growing issue.

  1. I hope this is a matter of proper care and not a company malfunction.

  2. I feel that those types of cigarettes should have way more protection on them to prevent things like this from happening. Yea, it was that guy's fault for having it exposed, but the company also needs to do something about it. -Jada Brown
