Mackenzie Bessner- Abducted child found after manhunt

On Monday in Tennessee, a four year-old girl was found after disappearing from her Florida home on Saturday. The girl, Rebecca Lewis, and the abductor,  a man named West Wild Hogs, were spotted in a car outside a Memphis hospital. Police say a nurse called 911 and police sped to the scene to arrest Hogs. Surveillance cameras in Florida, Tennessee and Georgia spotted the pair during the manhunt. Hogs, who was a family friend, hadn't seen the girl in years. He was asked to leave the family's home more than two years ago after pulling a gun on the family. Relatives also said that Hogs had signs of depression and bipolar disorder. Police are still uncertain why Hogs may have taken the child. The whole family was very emotional and torn up and they were not sure why he took her.

Before I read the article, I did not hear about this abduction on the news. I believe that this article is very frightening but is very informative on what is going on in the world. So many bad things can happen everyday and a lot of times, we do not recognize them. I think that this article is showing the world how people can be more safe and be more protective over their children because anything can happen anywhere. This article has reminded me of so many other tragic abduction stories that I have read throughout the years. I am very glad that the little girl is safe and that the abductor is locked away and being supervised so this does not happen to the family again. This article was written by CNN and it is a very reliable news source.

  1. This is so sad, but I'm very relieved that she is found and safe now! Child abduction is a big problem in the world, and it needs to be fixed immediately. The government needs to find new techniques or systems to improve this situation, because I feel like past attempts to fix the problem have not succeeded in doing so.

  3. It is so sad that these things are happening consistently. I feel like every week when i go to look for a blog post it is the same things in the news: the presidential campaign, ISIS, and kidnappings, murders, deaths etc. It is so sad that it has become so normal in the news that I can go onto any news website at any given time and pretty much expect these horrible things to be there because they are so normalized. Im so glad that this instance ended up okay and that the girl has been reunited with her family.
