A man driving on the wrong side of the road in Vermont killed five teenagers in a car crash last Saturday. Upon collision, the teenager's car burst into flames. While a police officer was trying to rescue one of the teens out of the burning car, the driver of the other car, 36 year old Steven Burgoin, stole the officer's car and drove away. He then crashed into eight other vehicles, sending five people to the hospital with non-critical conditions. Burgoin, who has a criminal history of domestic abuse and driving under intoxication, remains in critical condition. The teenagers killed had known each other since elementary school, and were on their way home from a concert. Their loss has left the small Vermont community in a crippling shock. Police are calling it one of the worst scenes they've seen in 10 to 15 years.
This article was written to inform readers of this tragic event that happened over the weekend. Not only does the article describe the actual crash, but also the effects that it is having on the community. It's important because it describes how great of kids they were, and it highlights how dangerous drivers can take so much away from people. So many people are killed in car crashes every year. This can synthesize back to the loss that the family of Diana Pozderca faced when their teenage daughter was killed in a car crash by a drunk driver in Detroit a few years ago.
This is so sad. All these kids, who were our age, will never get to grow up, or graduate, or do anything ever again, all because of one reckless asshole. It's not fair.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad, and it really reminds to drive safely on the roads, especially with all of us just learning how to drive and/or spending our first year on the roads.
