Linnea Soderlund: Clown Threats Phenomenon in Texas

Summary: The Dallas Morning News article by Kylie Madry gives more insight to the mass hysteria that broke out among Texas residents within the last few days. The "creepy clown" issue has been ongoing in the last weeks throughout the nation. She touches on the many threats and reactions that took place here in Dallas ISD, including those at Skyline, Spruce, and even reaching out to Cedar Hill and Richardson. Overall, it is pretty much decided that these "clown threats" are, indeed, a hoax.

Analysis: This article really outlines a lot of information on this crazy and confusing current event, making it more understandable. This whole thing is scary and ridiculous. The fact that we even have to actually worry about crazy people dressing up as clowns and being a real threat to students and civilians speaks for itself.

Synthesis: This reminds me of the 2009 hoax when a little boy made everyone think that he was trapped in a hot air balloon. The power of social media and what people will believe nowadays is astonishing.

  1. I agree, but what is even more astonishing is how people would even think to have a hoax like this and think it's funny and/or a joke.

  2. This whole situation is ridiculous. The fact that people are making these threats is outrageous, and the fact people are believing them is foolish. But I understand the precautions officials are making. Such "clowns" have started threatening schools, and with a school shooting happening only this past week, school districts aren't taking any chances. It's unbelievable to think about what the world has come to.
