Summary: 52 people were killed at a holy festival in central Ethopia in a stampede. This was caused from people running to physically attack the elders during the ceremony and the police fired warning shots. But the exact number of casualties is still unknown. Gudina even said "This goes down as one of the darkest days in modern Oromo history". The people at the festival did not want to listen to the speeches because they view the ruling party as using this festival for their own benefit. Madness was then spawned from security using tear gas and shootings. Although bullets were involved none of the body's collected had any bullet wounds, meaning the stampede did the most damage during this tragic event.
Analysis/Synthesis: This event is a very sad thing to hear about, any protest that end in deaths are saddening. It seems more and more protest these days are happening, and there seems to be more that involve causalities and that just seems backwards to me. People should be able to protest for what they believe in without any violence ensuing. With social movements such as Black Lives Matter, young people are becoming more involved with acknowledging and discussing injustices in their society. Just like in 1773 when the colonists protested against Britain and their taxes through the Boston Tea Party, both the colonists and the people of Ethopia want to have a just system that benefits the people and not just the people in charge.
