Summary: Hurricane Matthew has recently hit the shores of Florida this past week. Hurricane Matthew has done an extreme amount of damage to Florida. However, this terrible storm could do some good, it could help put a stop to the Mosquitoes that carry the Zika Virus in Florida. The adult Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes that carry the disease will be washed away by the hurricane rain. For about a week there will be a decrease in the number of Mosquitoes. The hurricane rain will also wash away larvae from the mosquitoes killing future adult mosquitoes. Eventually though, the mosquitoes will come back and people fixing their homes and community will need to be very cautious.
Analysis: Natural disasters are devastating, they can destroy entire regions. I think natural disasters are natural occurrences that will always continue to happen. There's no way to stop them but there are ways to be cautious since we can predict them. I'm synthesizing this to the Malaria outbreak to the outbreak in Jamestown, 1607. The colonists suffered from Malaria due to the marshy area around the colony that attracted Mosquitoes. Those colonists would have probably hoped for a hurricane to end their Mosquito epidemic. Our Earth can be pretty dangerous, but our advances in technology has helped us in many instances. Hurricane Matthew is just one example of how, if we didn't predict it, many more people could have lost their life.

ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect opportunity to take some major action with the prevention of the Zika virus. The break from the mosquitoes is a blessing but what counts is what we do with it.
