Alix Burns: Wave of clown sightings

For the past couple of months, creepy clowns have been spotted across America. Many cases have reported the clowns lurking around, luring children, and casing people. Several school across the nation have been receiving threats and have even had to lock down campus in some situations. The several reports have drawn the attention of FBI officials, who believe the clowns could be linked to a recent death, while others think of the situation as a hoax and prank.

I have seen these clown reports over the last couple of months as it started off small, but it was spread more throughout the nation and has become more aware of over social media. As I do think all of this could have been very dangerous to the first sighting, I think that many people have seen the trend in clown spotting on social media and think it is funny to join and scare people in their neighborhood. As the article says, this is similar to a case between 1972 and 1978 when a man who dressed as a clown was convicted of sexually assaulting and killing 33 boys and men.

  1. This is just madness to me. Why do people want to create hysteria in an already unstable world? It's just really sad and I think anyone who attempts to scare others as a clown will risk their lives.

  2. So crazy that something this mad has spread throughout the nation so fast. We should be scared, but then again, we should be focusing on more important matters.

  3. It seems like this whole clown thing has blown up so fast and it's especially scary since we don't really know what's going on. However, I agree with Elijah, it seems like a very unimportant thing to be focused on.

  4. I think media has blown this situation way out of proportion. Everyone is making this a joke but don't realize that sick people can potentially take this seriously and harm others.

  5. To me this scares me. As one person started to dress up as a clown, then everyone is joining. Today Woodrow Wilson had to have a lockdown because of the clowns. Another school had to shut down because two people dressed up in clown outfits with a knife. It has gotten out of hand and we need to figure out who these people are terrorizing Disd schools.

  6. This kind of prank isn't very funny to small children. As a child I watched the movie It and that is where my fear of clowns originated. When I was younger I didn't know any better and was genuinely scared. That's what's happening to children that are being scared by these clowns. It's emotionally scarring and shouldn't be considered a prank.

  7. This prank is so stupid and has become a "hoax" of clowns. The fact is this is making this Halloween much more dangerous for all, and has anyone not seen American Horror Story with the clowns! People should take this a lot more serious.
