Madison Harvey: Zika virus spreads

Summary: For the first time in the United Sates the Zika virus has been detected in mosquitos in Miami beach, Florida. People who are on the case say that it was expected considering all the mosquito population in Florida. The health department said they have tested 40,000 mosquitos and only three tested positive for the virus. They say that the virus can not be transmitted through other mosquitos, but it can be transmitted to human through mosquito bites. Cases of the virus were located in Wynwood ,Florida where there were 2,200 cases reported related to travel. Later in Miami beach health officials confirmed five people were carrying the virus. Mayor Phillip Levine said that the city is aggressively trying to fight the virus and together they can contain and eliminate all cases. He also called on Congress to provide the "nessayary emergency resources" to help fight the virus.

Anyalize: This article was written by Doug Stanglin who writes for On Deadline and was perviously a foreign editor. Doug is trying to inform the audience about the outbreak. What, when and how the virus spreads. This current event reminds me of when the Europeans came over to the new world and where carrying diseases witch caused the majority of the native population to die because they were not immune to the diseases. Back then they weren't familiar with the disease that were spreading just like
we are dealing with a virus that we are not familiar with.

  1. This article and the one I read both were related to the Zika Virus. A disease like this that spreads over time was common in U.S. history, and I would hate to see that take place today.
