Liza Kaye: Brock Turner released early from jail

Summary: Former Stanford University swimmer, Brock Turner, was accused of raping an unconscious college girl after a party, behind a dumpster. When two Swedish heroes approached the scene on their bikes, Brock attempted to run away. After a long trial, the judge sentenced Brock to only six months. The fact that a rapist can get away with six months was already cutting it. Now, Brock Turner has been let out of prison for "good behavior" at only three months. Although there are lots of mandatory things Brock has to enroll in, he is still free, whereas others, are not.

Analysis: For a usual rape case, just like this one, a typical person would be charged with at least 14 years, if not life, Brock however, was released so early. I think that Brock has an American commercialized look that every American would look up to. (before the conviction of rape). Brock attended a very well recognized university, was a very talented athlete, and looked like the all around good, American kid. The fact that they're taking someone like that off of the streets and into jail made some people sympathize with the kid. Others, not so much. I think that this is just another justification that our justice system is crazy subjective. There have been several cases in history where the outcome just doesn't seem fair and there is not much you can do about it. As most people say, history repeats, and here is just another subjective justice case.

  1. I agree with you that our justice system should not make acceptions based on qualities, looks, or circumstances in that persons life. If someone commits a crime, they should do the right amount of time for what they did.

  2. Brock Turner's defense was that he made a mistake, and he was young, and that one mistake shouldn't ruin someone's life. Well what about his victim's life? Rape is a very traumatic experience that is very difficult to overcome. Knowing that the man who attacked you is free roaming the streets is terrifying. His victim will probably being looking over her shoulder, scared that he is following her, for the rest of her life. It's a sad world we live in.

  3. America is back at it again with the letitng white men convicted of rape and felonies free because of they look and they might have a future ahead of them. The victim does also - but their's has been forever shaped by the fact that someone committed such an attrocity against them and now that said person is free

  4. Here in this situation, the victim will never truly feel justice has been served because 3 months doesn't teach you any lessons and you shouldn't get out of punishment for a crime like this just because of "good behavior"

  5. This is an outrage that he was let out early. He committed something that was worth an extensive punishment and he should be held fully accountable.
