Lilly Anthony-Four Portland hospitals team up to improve access to mental health services

Summary:

In the past, hospitals have not had any sort of mental health facility for patients. Wanting to keep from patients having to attend more hospitalization from a mental health hospital, The Unity Center for Behavioral Health has stepped out to help. The Unity Center consist of four Portland hospitals who were seeking to fix the crisis of mental health services in hospitals. They concluded that about 15-20 percent of their calls were mental health related and were unable to provide for patients specific needs. Stephanie McMurphy, whose son has mental health issues, believes that this really isn’t a final solution to the issue. She believes there’s more complication behind mental health that the Unity Center isn’t addressing. Doctors say that transport for mental health patients in the The Unity Center will be opened shortly.

Analysis:

This article points out that people who are hospitalized for physical health issues have had to be put in mental health hospitals because medical hospitals don’t offer that service for patients.  Prior to reading this article, I know that many patients who have been through some sort of trauma are probably going to suffer some mental problems as well. And because of this, the patients have been forced to be dsdmn and be hospitalized in another hospital. The main idea of this article is to let society know that The Unity Center for Behavioral Health are taking action to this issue. In U.S. history, the vaccination for smallpox was introduced by Edward Jenner's in the 1790s which saved the lives of hundreds of Americans signifying another step to improving healthcare. The Unity Center for Behavioral Health is doing the same as they continue to advance in their health services.
