Summary:
On a Monday night, a fight between an off-duty police officer and his relative broke out inside their home on 2700 block of Taunton Street. The fight consisted of the police officer shooting the relative with an off-duty weapon. The fight started out with a verbal argument that soon turned into a physical fight. Philadelphia Police Lieutenant John Stanford said, "During this altercation his weapon was discharged at least twice, striking one of the individuals inside of the home in the torso area of the body.”

This article was published soon after this incident occurred so the investigation continues. I did not know about this incident until I read the article, this effects my knowledge of the topic because this is the only source I have read from on this topic. This article was written for the general public and it has a negative effect because lately there has been so many police shootings in the U.S. and it just makes me sad because people are not learning from others' mistakes. The article was written as a news statement on the Philadelphia NBC’s page. This document is relevant to our lives today because it is important to be aware of all of these shootings happening recently. This article relates to many events in the past, such as the police shootings that happened in Dallas this past summer.

  1. This article is definitely in a bad light because of all the police brutality going on in our world today. I do have to say this leaves me wanting to know more about the situation to see if the gun was used under the right conditions/purposes.

  4. I agree that the general public needs to be kept aware of any violent crimes happening in their communities, but we also can't let this exposure desensitize us towards violence. We need to keep fighting to end the countless deaths due to gun violence that have been so prevalent recently.
