International Diseases Don't Need A Passport to Come to the United States - Skyler Tepedino

Summary: "Global body moots mosquito birth control to tackle Zika, dengue," points  out the flaws in some methods to treat or to slow down the progression of the Zika virus. Zika is already here; and with all the traveling people do, there is a great possibility we will see an increase in other global diseases come to the United States. The people in Singapore and Malaysia are suffering from these viruses severely and require lots of medical help, especially the pregnant women. One of there biggest problems is the effects on unborn children to women who are infected/bitten. Scientists have come up with SIT (Sterile Insect Technique). Although not new, the the idea of this technique is to sterilize the insect to prevent them from reproducing with the virus already  in their system. Scientists have to collect mosquitoes and separate them bgave the males radiation to sterilize them before going back into the wild. Overall this process isn't a sure end to the diseases, but if it will work but they have a chance.

Analysis:I think this article was written to show the problem we have globally and how it effects us locally. It is also informing us what to do if we are bitten or if the mosquitos are in the area. I've noticed on the local news that there has been multiple sprayings in our neighborhoods and counties to try to eliminate the population of possible Zika mosquitos. 

Synthesis: The content in this article reminds me of when the immigrants coming to the New World. They didn't realize that they brought over deadly diseases and viruses such as small pox and diphtheria to America and the effect it would have to the New World. Back then, they didn't have any type of medicine to possibly cure the diseases and the viruses they encountered. It becomes survival of the fittest, where those with the best immune system live. Not having a cure is making us be more vigilant with how we take care of ourselves daily and prevent any spreading.
