Grace Schwall- Pipeline Disturbing Native American Lands

Summary: Over the past few months Energy Transfer Crude Oil Company has been constructing the Dakota Access Pipeline on sacred Native American land just miles from a Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Reservation in North Dakota. Tribe members protest the construction of this new pipeline daily and have most recently taken their case to federal court. The Standing Rock Sioux tribe hopes that the company will not be able to continue their disruptive multibillion dollar project for much longer.

Analysis: This article was written in the New York Times by Jack Healy in order to express the ridiculous  indifference that Americans have in regard to Native American culture today. The Standing Rock Sioux people have had to fight for their land through generations and they are still not getting the respect that they deserve even in modern times.  The article informs the public of the issues that Native Americans still face today. This situation is similar to when European colonists stole and ruined Native lands through fur trapping, mining, and over-farming in the 1600s-1700s. In both cases economy and business are prioritized above respect for Native culture. It's horrible that Americans have yet to learn to treat different cultures and lands with proper regard.

  2. It's insane how still today, inequality for Native Americans is such an issue. As we took away their land many years ago, as well as how poorly we have treated them in modern times, they deserve this land.

  3. I believe that is so cruel how they are acting in relation to the Native Americans. It is very inconsiderate of their rights as a human being, and disrespectful to their tribe and heritage. I hope that one day America will learn that Native Americans have just the same rights as everyone else, and should not be discriminated in any way. If anything, they have more rights than we do because they were here before us!
