Summary
Fifteen years ago, on September 11, 2001, amid the chaos and burning of the World Trade Center, three New York firefighters were pictured tying up a small American flag that had previously belonged to a nearby yacht. The
picture and the act was seen everywhere as a sign of hope and resiliency despite the tragedy. However, the flag went missing from the World Trade Center after only a couple of hours of it being up. Fifteen years later, the iconic flag is back in New York and will be displayed near the entrance of the national September 11 Memorial and Museum, built on the site of ground zero. A man in Everett, Washington, named Brian claimed himself to be a retired marine who received the flag on Labor Day of 2007. He turned the flag in November 2014, it was tested and proved to be the exact flag.
Analysis
This is a very important moment for us right now in history because the flag showed perseverance and pride and it reappearing has reminded us of this message. Although it is weird that we are just now hearing about it considering the fact that the flag was turned in last November. The flag still remains important but it might've been helpful to hear about its appearance earlier. September 11th has been really important to American history but I never knew that the flag that was hung up was eventually stolen. Even though I had little prior knowledge of the flag beforehand it still was amazing reading about it and what did to American pride. This article was written for all of those who still like to remember the tragedy of 9/11. However, it adds a little bit of light to the subject because from now on it will be remembered as something we fully overcame. The reason that this article was written is to inform the American people that the mystery of the flag has somewhat been solved. This can also be compared to the colonies feeling confident after their win in the French and Indian war. With 9/11 being tomorrow we can definitely continue to be sad in remembrance but now we can also celebrate the pride of us Americans as we persevere and push past the tragedy.
