Tajia Stroud (5th period): Cave Art in France 10,000 Years Older than Thought***

Summary***   The study of dated 10,000-15,000 year old art analyzed charcoal drawings on the floor and walls of the Chauvet-Pont d’Arc cave and found that there were two phases of human occupation. Researchers have also found animal bones in the cave stated to be bear bones, but have not yet found any human remains inside. “This is pretty revolutionary for us. It is a new tool which could be used elsewhere to study other ancient time periods,” says Jean-Michel Geneste, scientific director for the Chauvet-Pont d’Arc cave.

Analysis***
This could relate to the early times before Columbus and other Europeans discovered the "New World" for themselves and thought that natives were not perceptive as they were. This shows that even before Columbus, humans were showing that they could take what they saw and transfer it into an image, by marking on a surface. I think that just because humans are so very different from each other, they'd like to think they are superior to others just because they're lifestyle is not the same.

  1. It's insane how much art has affected all of humanity throughout history. I think that it is one thing that really unites all people from all places and all time periods.
