Jillian Linnear P.8 | The teens of dtx hold town hall on cultural appropriation

The teenagers of Dallas Texas held a town hall where people of all races came down to talk about cultural appropriation and their view on it. The event was held at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, and while the event took place the adults sat to the side to watch the opinions unfold. Multiple sessions like this have been held to talk about the recent issues that have come to light, the goal of these talks are to prompt the youth of this new generation to have open talks on the madness going on before them. The founder of the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, Curtis King kept the discussion on track and giving them controversial topics to talk about. This is so very relevant to our society today because more of the tragedies taking place against the minorities in our community need to be talked about and they cannot just be pushed aside. Kids are dying because of the ignorance set in our predecessors mind and we must ignite change within our own generation to at least try to get rid of this ignorance. I think this is a step in the right direction and although I do not believe our generation or the next will be able to get rid of years and years of ignorance left before us, but at least we can start.
