Internet poses different risk for special needs teens - Kate Fehan 8th Period

Most parents and teachers know that there need to be ground rules for social media access. The internet can be a dangerous place, but even more so for kids who struggle with communication. Many special needs teens need more help recognizing potentially risky situations and what they should share. Those who have impulse control issues need to have their screen time limited. Kortney Peagram, a psychologist, is writing about what she's learned and is helping educate teachers and parents on how to keep their kids safe online. Since this is a new problem, there isn't much research on the subject yet. This is only slightly similar to when wallpaper became popular in England during the Tudor period. Wallpaper in houses became available and the most popular color was a green made with arsenic. Like the internet, it was a trend that took over rapidly when people weren't aware of the dangers. It took years of accidents and research to educate the public. Hopefully, educating the public will happen a lot faster this time.

  2. Kids in general wether SN or not should be limited to the amount of time allowed on the internet

  3. This kind of stuff could've really helped me a lot back when I was a little younger and my Asperger's was more prevalent... I feel so deprived of this knowledge that could have helped me not make an ass of myself online. Damn.
