Google Pulls Taliban App- Isabella Montague 5th period

Even though Google set a more strict review process of all of their apps, a Taliban app was created on Google Play on April 1st. Apparently the app was written in Pashto language and was created by the Taliban group. It was reported by an association called SITE, whose job is to report online terrorist influences. Google has recently confirmed that the app is in fact removed and has been taken care of, but this isn't the first time they have had to pull apps, because it the past, they eliminated apps with images of the Confederate flag and ones with connections to stimulating bombing Gaza.

I'm surprised that SITE found the app so quickly and that Google acted to removing it already, since the app was apparently created on April 1st. This reminds me of the last chapter in our textbooks that explains the challenges and trends of America as we started this new century, because it emphasized the importance of the Internet and new technology, which changed the way we communicate and interact, which I think this story is a good example of. The Internet has lasting changed and influences.

There should be a system in place where Google weeds out the suspicious apps before they are even posted.
