Adriana Hinojosa, Period 8, There Are Bigger Things to Worry About

While there are bigger things to worry doubt, this whole body image subject definitely matters. It's a subject that, to me, is starting to get a little old but in the sense that nothing is being done about it. In this country, more so than everywhere else, there is one body type all women are expected to have and when they don't they are seen as less. In a recent issue of Glamour magazine, Amy Schumer was labeled as "plus size". She took offense to this because in the US, plus size is considered size 16 or above and she usually wears a size 6 to 8. She has every right to be upset. Not because being plus sized is something to be ashamed of, but because everyday what is being considered plus size is smaller and smaller. Labels such as this one can be really detrimental to a person and can cause that person to make stupid decisions accordingly. Our country is undergoing so much change as it has in the past few years and forever, really and for this to be something people spend their time on is ridiculous. A woman (or man) should be able to just be. There is no need for there to be a word on what you are besides your name, why else were we given names?

  1. This is so frustrating! It is not right that women of a certain size have to go to a separate section to shop for their clothing! No person's body deserves to be insulted or shamed for being different from anothers.
