Gov. John Kasich of Ohio effectively defunded Planned Parenthood in his state by stripping away $1.4 million from it's budget. Abortions are still available to cases of rape, incest, and the mother's health being at risk, but other parts of the program, such as STD and HIV testing, are cut out of the budget.
This will severely impact the fight for abortion and health care policies. This also shows Kasich's views, as he is considered a moderate in his party. Abortion has been a hot topic since the roaring 20's when Margaret Sanger was involved in it's cause and women started rebelling against their traditional roles of mother and housekeeper. You would think that almost 100 years later we would have resolved it, but we are a race slow to change.
I think this is a mistake because people actually need more of planned parenthood if it tests for HIV and STDs because I think not enough people practice safe sex. This is just my opinion and I'm not actually familiar with what exactly planned parenthood does, but it seems to be a good program.
I personally believe that the government has no right telling me and/or others what to do with our bodies, especially when it comes to something as serious as parenthood and everything that goes with it and that could come with it that you might not know about. I think this was a stupid move, the government should fund the program and it can be up to each individual person whether or not they want to use it.

I don't understand why, just because planned parenthood participates in one activity that only some don't like, thousands of women and children are stripped of planned parenthood's benefits. Disgusting.

I agree that this program shouldn't be shut down because what if the parent is carrying HIVs or STDs and how will that affect their child that they now have no choice but to bring into life harmed.
