Virginia McLaurin, 106, danced for joy when she met Obama. She got the opportunity to go to the White House for black history month.
McLaurin started a social media campaign last year, saying that she had waited all of her life for a person of color to hold office in the White House. She was born in South Carolina in 1909, and moved to Washington, D.C. thirty-two years later.
Another story about a young fan of Obama went viral last week. A young girl sobbed on camera, because Obama was on his way out of office. Obama responded "dry your tears, Caprina" referring to the young girls grandmother.
Stories like this always brighten my day. I teared up watching the video of Virginia meeting the POTUS and FOTUS
This story synthesizes directly to the civil rights movement, which Virginia lived through! Judgement was based on the color of ones skin. Virginia very likely took part in the battle against racism. Thanks to efforts like hers, Rosa Parks', and MLK's, we live in a world that strives for equality today.
