Twitter, since mid-2015, has suspended more than 125,000 accounts for the promotion of terrorist acts. They reported that many of these groups promoted ISIS(The Islamic State). World wide governments have been urging social media to take action against the terrorism accounts, and that this activity has already started coming off of Twitter. Near the end of 2014, there was an estimated 46,000 accounts promoting extremist activity. In December U.S. politicians put forward a bill that required social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, to inform them of these terrorist accounts.
This is exciting news that social media is taking the initiative to make their websites safer for their users, and making the extremist accounts disappear. This news reminds me of post World War I America. When Americans were scared of the ideas and spread of Communism from the foreign country of Russia, and now America is afraid of the spreading ideas of terrorism. In the 20s the Immigration Quota was put in place to limit the amount of unuseful immigrants coming into the U.S., and keeping Russians and foreigners out as well. Today, the U.S. has tighter restrictions on immigration from the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
