Thousands of Voters Confused by "Independent" Party Name by Caroline North 9th period

As Presidential Primaries quickly approach, an issue has cropped up of several thousand people people possibly confusing the United Independent Party as being independent when registering to vote.  The UIP does not have any presidential candidates running for election this year.  Therefore, if registered as a UIP voter, you won't be able to vote in the upcoming primary.  These suspicions were confirmed as officials have made an effort to inform everyone in the last couple weeks that if you intended to identify yourself as an independent, you need to re-register yourself before the presidential primary occurs.  As the information spread, over 5,000 people re-registered themselves as "unenrolled", the proper classification for independent.

It is obviously important that every voice and opinion is taken into account when electing a new president in this country.  However, it is compromised if not every person can vote because they made an accidental, uninformed decision and identified themselves with an unintended party.  Not everybody voting is the reason some people are unhappy with our politicians and the lack of representation and advocacy in the government for certain groups.  People need to make sure they register with the intended party to give them the opportunity to vote.
