This weekend Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died, and along with it came enormous reprocussions for the U.S. legal and political system right now and for years to come. The biggest questions on everyones minds are Scalias replacement and the functioning of the court. President Obama is entitled to name a successor, but the senate must confirm. Republicans are lobbying to hold off the replacing of Scalia until the next presidential election is over. If no Obama nominee is confirmed this year then only eight justices will be in the court this current term. For democrats however this could be a chance to get anotother more liberal Supreme Court Justice on the board, creating a mainly liberal court.

This article written by Ron Elving, NPR, comes as a surprise to many, but i for one am very hopeful that Obama will find a replacement for Scalia. Supreme Court Justices have died during presidential elections and have been replaced many times in the past and that just shows that it can happen. Obama plans to continue with finding a nominee.
Really interested to see how this will change some major political decisions
