When Dr. Sanjay
Gupta, asked the astronaut Scott kelly to describe the health of the planet .
He had said Certain areas, for example parts of Asia and Central America,
are covered in a "haze of pollution" and "look kind of sick." He also
mentioned that our atmosphere looks thin and fragile. Scott Kelly is 51,
and has spent more than 500 days in space in his career, and is known for
addressing environmental issues from space. He is also the commander of
the International Space Station and is currently scheduled for return from his mission on March 1.
His remarks on how the planet looks
should be a great concern, considering the atmosphere is the main reason life
evolved and stays living on Earth. It is why we have oxygen to breathe,
keeps the temperature right, makes the weather system that creates our water
cycle, and also provides protection from the sun and incoming objects that
fall from space. It is definitely scary to think that our atmosphere is
continually growing weaker because of human pollution. This relates back to US
history to when Roosevelt led the conservation movement to show the effect
people had on the environment
Angelique Flores 9th- I agree with you that is scary how our atmosphere which protects us from many harmful things looks fragile and weak.
