Summary:
On November 25, 2015 a campaign was formed, for a Canadian firefighter who was battling Leukemia for a third time, on a crowdfunding site called GoFundMe. The firefighter needed $500,000 foe an experimental treatment that would take place in the United States. The campaign revealed two things about healthcare: One, that it is very pricey in the United States: Two, the true power of these crowdfunding campaigns are proving themselves to be another viable way to pay for situations like these (In just about a month his GoFundMe page raised $276,150). With so many technological advances taking place Bo Cooper, the firefighter, should think the millennials, and owe it to the young generation who doesn't shy away from aspects of social media and aren't afraid of technology and all it has to offer. Along with this and the constantly growing internet as a mainstream medium, this is what has helped with the abundant growth of crowdfunding sites like GoFundMe.
Analysis:
As much as older generations criticize how much technology has taken over the world, and how our generation is being sucked in by the full force of it, they have to admit that without all of this wonderful innovation our world and the true advancement of it would not be where it is today. I also believe that our generation (the millennials) has and will continue to take every chance we have to bathe in the pool of technological wonder we live in, which will in turn make this world we live in more advanced in so many ways. Although we are constantly criticized about the constant use of technology, I think its a small price to pay for all of the wonderful things that technology has and will continue to do, and I have faith that, just like in this incident, that we will use the gift of technology that our generation possesses, to not only advance our everyday lives, but the lives of others through the innovation of industries like health and medicine.
