Frederick Douglass--Google Doodle: Samantha Arthur 1st period

Google Doodle of the day is a sort of daily honor and Google recently decided to honor Fredrick Douglass for the first day of Black History month. CNN goes onto expand on why Google chose the famous author and abolitionist to be the face of the first day of Black History Month.

Frederick Douglass is one of the main faces of African-American abolition. His narrative explicitly describes the horrors of slavery. His book really brought life to subjects most people in that time period had never stopped to encounter. I think it's only appropriate to elect Douglass as the Google Doodle face of the 1st day of Black History month. It's also convenient, considering we've just read his narrative in AP Lang. In sad reality, some of the issues people like Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King fought for are still not settled today. Racism, although not as big of an issue as it was when slavery was around, is still a huge social problem that should have been fixed ages ago.

  1. I agree, and I only hope that the awareness that comes with the celebration of black history this month will make others more considerate and thoughtful of issues circumnavigating our nation today.

  3. I also agree. As we learned in APUSH, Frederick Douglass was very important to African American history. I hope that this month we can remember and recognize him as much as he deserves to be.
