All doctors and physicians are in agreement that all adolescents should be routinely screened for depression, and have easy access to help that they may need. Adults are only suggested to be screened if signs of depression are shown. However there is evidence that 12-18 years olds should be screened regularly. It is even more difficult to fin sign of depression in adolescents. There is no specific data about how often they should go in for a screening.
This interested me a lot because you hear all of the time of teens or adults who in their teens went through depression, or self harm. You can always look online to take depression tests and see if you are having symptoms of depression. Although I have never been tested, I think it would be interesting if all parents started getting their teens screened.

This is very interesting! I think that many adolescents have problems because of their age and the way we react to everything. I wonder what sort of testing they would do to test depression.

then depression would be less of a big deal, people wouldn't think its that "crazy" which is good and there would be more understanding and better support for teens because it wouldn't be treated as an excuse or as a thing to pity
ReplyDeleteWith all of the work and stress that is placed on teens these days I wouldn't be surprised if most of us had some sort of depression. Another thing that could play a part in the formation of depression is that not many people but people your age can truly understand how you feel, so it can be hard to talk about what's going on with some people. Although adults say they were a teenager once they most probably didn't have this much stress, work, and responsibility shoved onto them. If we can figure out an easy way to convey what's going on in our lives to those who are willing to listen it might take some of the weight off our backs.
