Study Reveals Massive Global Wealth Divide-Nicholas Watson, 9th

Summary:
During a study the combined riches of 62 of the world's wealthiest people equaled the wealth of 3.5 billion people (the bottom half of humanity). This information was released in a report about extreme global wealth inequality. These discoveries emphasize the growing divide between those at both ends of the income chart. Since 2010 the wealth of the 62 richest people grew 44% ($1.76 trillion). On the other hand during the same period the wealth of the poorest half of the world dropped 41% ($1 trillion). According to an organization known as Oxfam "Our economic system is heavily skewed in their (the wealthiest) favor." The organization also added that this rising inequality is a problem for all of us and that increasing income inequality poses risks for social unity as well as threaten to slow down the current economic recovery. As of now there are more then a billion people living in extreme poverty which basically means that they are living off of $1.90 a day.

Analysis:
For me I think that the economy is one of America's top issues and is also high on the charts for global problems. If we continue to on this path of letting the rich show dominance and continue to let them have major influence on our economy, the middle and lower classes will have no chance, until we/they are completely gone, with all that's left to show is a world run by the rich. I also don't think its fair that we have so may people, so many right here in America, facing a constant struggle of being able to support themselves and their families, due to lack of money, while we have people who have more money than they know what to do with, most of it just sitting in a vault somewhere. Without a doubt the moral issues of economic inequality between people is one of the greatest issues of our time, and when there is 62 people who, together, have the total wealth of the bottom half of the worlds population there is a problem. So if we don't want social issues and moral issues to rise then we must do something about creating an equal, if not more equal than now, society. A society where more people are given the chance to make something of themselves without the fear of economic instability.

  1. We really need to improve on the large wage gap in our country between the lower and upper classes.
