This is a bizarre story mostly because it's pretty of ambiguous. The lack of details makes it kind of sketchy. Apparently a man walked into a hospital, was having a procedure, kicked a nurse, the doctor found out so punched the patient, punched another man that walked in where the first guy was being beaten, tried to revive the patient, then the patient died. Like I said...kind of sketchy. The only thing they got on severance was the beatings, nothing preceding it. I'm not sure how much information the person writing the article knew because they used phrases ranging from "come to her rescue" to "beaten" for the same situation which makes the seriousness of the condition vary.
This kind of story is difficult because if it's just a doctor beating up on a guy we can label that as bad, no questions asked. But we didn't see the patient's violent part. I think it's good that this guy is getting convicted though because doctors are held as some of the highest people in our society and if they just go around beating their patients to death...that's not good. This story, in a way, is like Dr. Michael Swango, who is currently serving 3 life sentences in prison for poisoning his patients and colleagues. Both doctors abused their patience and both have been committed for it (although it took Swango three separate times to get his).

And by some chance if you feel like looking at a top 10 list of murdering doctors, here's that too.
