FIFA Still Under Investigation // Uriel Cruz, Period 6

While in Zurich, Switzerland last July, my dad had asked if visiting FIFA's HQ was on the list. The trip guide responded with, "We don't have enough money to bribe our way in." My dad and some other dudes laughed but I didn't understand. I asked him on our way back to where we were staying and he told me that FIFA had been under investigation for corruption for quite a while. I was shocked to hear that a company so big, and seemed to be full of joy, had a dark side. Its referees are still being bribed to throw games, countries were bribing heads to 'pick' them to host the World Cup, like Qatar. Although Messi earned the Ballon d'Or this time, whenever Ronaldo would recieve the award, the person who gave him the award was kind of disappointed or mad. Maybe the Ballon d'Or could also be rigged, who knows.
There is a link down below to a match analysis of the Gold Cup semi-finals that I believe truly showed how corrupt FIFA is. The hand to the face was definitely a yellow card, the handball was a foul but it wasn't on purpose like many said it was, and Mexico had somehow won the match by penalty just like the match prior. Mexico seemed to be guilty of bribery at the end of the match and even Mexican fans were embarrassed by the win.
This situation reminds me of the Guilded Age when businesses would come together to make more money, Mexico and the referee in this case. The viewers and Panama, or the workers and businesses not involved in the trust, obviously saw what was going on and tried to protest but othing happened. I don't think the US ever left the Guilded Age. Corruption is probably just as bad now as it was back in the late 1800s. The Wolf of Wall Street also showed the world just how corrupt the brokers of Wall Street were. They may still be just as corrupt, I don't know. Look it up.

The Wolf is on Netflix. It's really long and boring and only some parts are funny but it's still history in a way.
