In this article, Samsung has finally come to an agreement with South Korean workers who have become sick from working in Samsung's factories. the workers were exposed to carcinogens in the areas where they made LCD screens and chips. A mandate was made to ensure that Samsung will ensure workers health and do spot checks of the chemicals used in making their products.
This reminds me of all of the labor unions and workers in the Gilded Age and how long it took for worker's rights to actually be recognized. In today's society there are still cases of companies mistreating workers. Because of labor unions, it is less common in the U.S. It saddens me that 200 current and former employees are sick because of Samsung's negligence.
That seems like something the United States would do....at least the corrupt ones. Especially if its a business they find loopholes to gain the benefit. (Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)
ReplyDeleteThis is honestly very upsetting, if only companies would put more effort into protecting their workers instead of focusing on the reaction to their most recent business move. (Jillian Linnear P.8)
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how things like this can still occur even though we know and observe what has happened in the past. Poor working conditions negatively impacted everyone, and life in general seriously improved when regulations were set in the US. Factories should automatically maintain good conditions in order to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the company and its employees.
