At around 5 p.m., a car jumped a curb in the Bronx and hit a group of trick-or-treaters, killing three people. Louis Perez, 65, and his 10-year-old granddaughter, Nyanna, died from the impact while his other 3-year-old granddaughter was rushed to the hospital in stable condition. 24-year-old Kristian Leka also died in the crash while her 9-year-old daughter and 21-year-old friend only suffered minor injuries. The 54-year-old driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition but it is being examined if a medical problem was the cause of this horrible accident.
I am so sorry for the two families who lost loved ones in this episode and I know they will never look at Halloween the same again. I am sorry for the survivors in this accident who wish that they had never left home that night. I also feel sorry for the driver because I know guilt must be eating him up inside right now. He may not be able to mentally get behind the wheel again. All-in-all, everyone suffered that night and I hope that they will all be able to move past it.
It's sad to think that people died on Halloween. Halloween is supposed to be fun and scary, not sad and depressing.
