The mafia in New York and general mafia activity has critical shrunken. Almost so much that the major mafia families have died out. It started in the 80's and 90's with major crackdowns on the mafia. Vincent Asaro, an alleged Bonanno family captain was set up by a distant cousin. The cousin turned himself in to the FBI, agreeing to record phone conversations within the family. The FBI has stated that Asaro, 80, seems to not understand the way organized crime is moving as well as being insecure within his power in the family.
There has always been organized crime, and I believe there always will be. Some of the first crime rings have been dated all the way back to the 1600's.
This story is quite interesting and I'm not so sure how I feel about it. I'm glad organized crime is at a low within the united states but at the same time it just goes to show that the "good 'ol days" are gone.
It's weird looking back and seeing how we've evolved from organized crime to random spurts of "adrenaline rush" bomb cases. (Jillian L. P.8)
