Adriana Hinojosa, 8th Legalization of Marijuana in Ohio

Image:

The legalization of marijuana in Ohio for both medical and recreational use was quickly turned down. Many people are angry about the state's decision while others are content. A woman was interviewed and she feels the legalization is essential for her eight year old son who suffers from seizures and could benefit from the drug, medically. Others are glad the drug has not been legalized because it is a "dangerous drug". I agree that it can be dangerous but I don't think it can be any more dangerous than the already legal alcohol. I first felt weird about the legalization of marijuana because I thought "what's next? cocaine?". But my mentality has changed because that is a drastic comparison. The drug has proven a number of benefits as well as popular recreational use. Are we trying to hide something here? People are obviously going to use it for pleasure/a good time just as they do alcohol. I used to watch Boardwalk Empire (a phenomenal HBO TV show that I highly recommend--it's graphic so be careful) which takes place in New Jersey during the prohibition. It's ridiculous to see how much money was made in speakeasies at the time because people so desperately wanted alcohol and today it's available at any old local 711. I think the same thing will happen with weed. Within the next few years it will be legal nationwide and my kids will have trouble believing it was ever illegal. Humans just have a difficult time dealing with change which I totally understand but we'll eventually get over it and accept that change is necessary. I also strongly believe that alcohol is much more dangerous than marijuana.

  1. Marijuana legalization is just going to make everyone relaxed and get the munichies. Not abusive like alcohol.

  2. I agree that this drug is highly beneficial especially since it has been proven to be helpful medically and unlike alchol which isn't

  3. I personally disagree and think that once we let this one drug in, it's going to become easier to compromise for other, worse, drugs. But I will say, this was very well written and I did listen and appreciate what you had to say, so way to go. I appreciate that you weren't obnoxious and overbearing about your opinion. :)
